Founded in the year 1925 in Patna, with 35 students on the rolls was earlier known as PRINCE OF WALES MEDICAL COLLEGE. It was the sixth and one of the oldest medical colleges in undivided India. The number of annual admissions went up to 170, and is presently 100 only. The post graduates are 462. The hospital has 1760 beds.
The alumni of Patna Medical college have occupied prestigious positions both in India and abroad. The WHO has selected PMCH as one of the ten medical colleges in the country for implementation of hospital waste management project. The Rehabilitation Council of India has also selected PMCH as nodal centre of MASTER TRAINER PROGRAM for imparting training in rehabilitation of handicapped to the Medical officers working in rural set-up.
